How to burn it
Burn oud by placing foil or a mica plate between the coal and the burner, then a single chip on low heat, lifted off before it blackens. High heat takes the sweetness first and leaves only smoke.

A chip is not incense. It does not need to be consumed to have done its work — most of what it has to give comes off before it chars, and what comes after is smoke without sweetness.
It will still be in the cloth after the coal has cooled. That is the part you are paying for.
